Oyo Government and Ibadan DisCo Mutual Debtors Resolve Financial Crisis

Mutual debtors, Oyo Government and Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) have agreed to resolve their disputes over unpaid taxes and electricity bills in the public interest.

The two sides took up the resolution in a jointly signed statement in Ibadan on Thursday.

The statement, titled “Re: Sealing of IBEDC Offices”, was jointly signed by Temilolu Ashamu, Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, and John Ayodele, Chief Operating Officer of IBEDC.

“This is to inform the general public that the Oyo State Government and Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) Plc have resolved and agreed to work together for the benefit of the public” , the statement revealed. “The general public is hereby assured of the restoration of electricity supply as soon as possible while both parties will continue to resolve issues amicably in the interest of the public, including working together to put electricity meters in ‘Electricity Available to Residents of the State.’

On Wednesday, the state government claimed to have sealed off the IBEDC office for non-payment of taxes, while IBEDC management said it cut off the power supply to the state secretariat due to an enormous debt.

The IBEDC action has left many areas of Ibadan in the dark due to the disconnection.
